Brief Biographical Information...
In various forms, it seems that religion and the paranormal have always dovetailed in Rev. Sherrie's life. Beginning when she was around 13-years-old, Sherrie began to study the Bible as well as the supernatural, parapsychology, and myth. She also accepted Jesus as her Lord and savior at that same age. As she grew up, she continued to read and study in various forms about Christianity and about the paranormal for educational purposes.
One of the things that most sets Rev. Sherrie apart from many of those in the field is her academic credentials and professional experience. Sherrie has an undergrad degree with a double major in Religion and in Writing. She also has a Master’s in Divinity from Duke. She has taken five units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), which includes a year's residency as hospital chaplain. She also has worked as a hospice chaplain. While taking CPE, Sherrie specialized as a psychiatric chaplain, which sometimes assists her greatly in evaluating paranormal situations. She also studies emerging sciences and scientific breakthroughs, has volunteered for parapsychology experiments at the Rhine Research Center in the past, and participates in remote viewing groups.
Rev. Sherrie is an ordained minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination. Even though it is not traditional within her denomination, Sherrie made additional formal vows during her ordination service agreeing to act as an exorcist and healer as additional aspects of her calling to general ministry. (She actually may be the first and only one ever to have made such formal vows within her denomination.) This makes her one of the few Christian clergy within any mainline Protestant denomination to ever have taken formal vows agreeing to act as an exorcist and a healer.
As a minister, Rev. Sherrie James has directly assisted those that are experiencing extremely challenging paranormal or demonic hauntings for years. She provides a safe place for people who have experienced paranormal events to process and discuss how those experiences impact their normal and spiritual lives. She meets them not with judgement but with understanding and with the belief that God is forgiving and is always more powerful than anything evil in their lives.
Rev. Sherrie occasionally acts as a paranormal crisis intervention specialist assisting or intervening in extremely challenging paranormal situations. Upon request and based on the Christian faith, Sherrie can conduct home blessings, cleansings or location exorcisms. (She does not charge for doing this ministry.) Upon the exceedingly rare occasion, Rev. Sherrie will consider doing a human exorcism. Unless it is an extreme and immediate emergency situation where someone is in danger, however, Rev. Sherrie only will consider conducting a human exorcism after the person has gone through a complete medical and psychological evaluation. In such situations when an exorcism seems to be needed, she prefers to work in conjunction with a qualified licensed therapist or psychiatrist, with a physician present, and with strict safety and medical protocols in place. Having worked as a psychiatric chaplain also aids Rev. Sherrie greatly in determining whether she feels that someone may benefit more from a therapist than an exorcist.
Rev. Sherrie readily acknowledges that many things that some people may consider to be paranormal or spiritual in nature most often have very logical or rational explanations. When they don't, however, she is there to try to help. Though Rev. Sherrie works directly with cases as a consultant, paranormal investigator, and/or as a Christian exorcist, she always considers herself to be a pastor or chaplain first and foremost.
Rev. Sherrie believes that God sometimes calls and prepares ministers to work with specific groups of people, such as with youth, with those who are terminally ill, or with the homeless. As one aspect of her general pastoral calling, Sherrie feels that God has prepared her for this particular ministry to help educate religious communities about the emerging sometimes controversial technologies or to help those in paranormal crisis or peril. As a part of being faithful to that calling, Sherrie took additional vows during her ordination service agreeing to act as an exorcist and healer as needed. She is one of the few Protestant pastors ever to have taken such vows. In addition, Rev. Sherrie is a first-rate paranormal investigator and understand what is being done scientifically to understand the paranormal. Though she knows from experience just how real and challenging the paranormal and the spiritual world truly is, she also knows how easily people can mistake things with logical explanations as being something supernatural or can erroneously view all scientific advancement as being negative.
Sherrie has never viewed the spiritual and science as being enemies or as being in opposition with one another. She considers God to be the ultimate Creator that often used scientific principles in the His creation to create order. Her belief is that humans as a whole simply are not advanced enough yet to fully understand everything about the paranormal or about the spiritual. So with that understanding in mind, Rev. Sherrie believes that it is not healthy or helpful when people do not attempt to rationally and spiritually understand, to discuss, and to formulate answers to things they do not understand as if they do not exist. She encourages people of faith to remember that God can help us deal with whatever falls within--or outside of-- the realm of known or emerging science.
